Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I not getting any heat?
This can be for a number of reasons; poor wood, loose seals, the fire's gone out (just joking!)... Give us a call and one of our staff can help talk you through some problem solving and/or further options.
Why is smoke coming back into the room?
Blockage, build up, low temperature, or negative pressure are some of many possible reasons. Try using smaller wood to get the fire started, then keeping the door slightly open until it is burning well. If the problem persists, have an inspection carried out.
Why won't my fire start?
A blocked flue is often the main cause of a fire not starting. Book a service or try using different wood. If this solves the problem, buy another load and put the first away for next season.
What wood should I be burning?
Good hard wood such as Ironbark makes for the best and longest burn. The moisture content should be at or below 20%. Remember to use well traditionally seasoned wood (minimum 12 months). Vintage wood is best.
How often should I have my flue cleaned?
Our professional recomendation is once a season, though some opt for every two years, and others wait till it's too late! If you burn throughout the season, day and night, you may find yourself cleaning twice. While it may seem that a holiday home may not need regular cleaning, more than just creosote can get stuck up there! Businesses such as wood-fire pizza restaurants should be serviced a minimum or every 6 months.
